As part of the official ceremony, Susan Lamb MP, the Federal Member for Longman, and Bill – one of Embracia's current residents, opened the complex.

Suzanne Hoey, Operation Manager, Queensland says that following the home's open day on 12 August, a number of residents have moved in, and a waiting list has already formed.

"We had a Community Open Day and everyone was welcome to tour our new home," she says.

"It was a great success with approximately 500 people attending.

"We also received excellent feedback from visitors and residents on the design and layout of the home as well as the caring nature of staff.

"Resident Bill who assisted us with the opening spoke about his appreciation of the home saying that ‘every day is like going on a cruise, the only exception is they do your laundry here!’"

The home comprises of six small communities for 20 people with two of the communities dedicated as specialised memory support households for those living with dementia.

The available rooms are single with private ensuite, as well as several rooms available to couples.

"Each community has its own lounge/dining area and kitchenette, as well as small sitting areas," Ms Hoey says.

"The individual communities are named after people with historical significance from the local area – Facer, Rowley, Torrens, Bancroft, Buckley and Dixon."

She adds that the facility also offers a central streetscape, a private dining area for special functions, hairdresser, library, theatre, chapel, café and massage room.

"The interior design is stunning," Ms Hoey explains.

"Each community has its own décor that is tastefully decorated in vibrant colours, with themed prints decorating the walls – the attention to detail has contributed to the feel of the home."

The new home also includes an indoor arcade room that contains a pinball machine and computerised brainteaser game while outside features a giant chess set in the barbecue area.

"Embracia Aged Care is well known for the quality of care it provides residents," Ms Hoey says.

"Embracia Burpengary will be offering the same high level of care, as well as short stay respite for those times when carers need a break."
